The Los Angeles Board of Public Works on Monday November 19, 2001 gave the final approval for the Gateway to Hollywood!
City Councilman Tom LaBonge and other Hollywood boosters urged the five-member panel to give the go-ahead and waive the public works-related city fees. Tom Labonge praised the project as an example of "redevelopment from the bottom up." Site architect Jeanine Centuori explained that the "HOLLYWOOD" tower is designed to "look like a beacon" to visitors especially from the Cahuenga Off ramp of the Hollywood Freeway. The Los Angeles Times printed an article the following day titled "Gateway to Hollywood to Serve as Beacon and Beautification Project," written by Times staff writer George Ramos. Construction is projected to begin in the next several weeks. |
