DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND POWER ADOPTS GATEWAY SIGN, FOUNTAIN, AND FIBER OPTIC LIGHTING FEATURE
Department of Water and Power Chief of Staff Frank Salas, speaking for then General Manager David Freeman announced that the Department of Water and Power will assign a Design Team to work with the Yucca Corridor Coalition and their architectural team in the design and engineering of the 30’ triangular sign that will stand as a centerpiece of the Gateway To Hollywood at Franklin Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard.
In addition the sign, which will have H-O-L-L-Y-W-O-O-D spelled out on all three sides, will be lit with fiber optics and incorporate a cascading waterfall that will blend into the esthetics of the entire Plaza area.
At an estimated cost exceeding $300,000 the sign/fountain element is the most costly element of the $800,000 project. The DWP has pledged $140,000, as well as in-kind costs of $81,000, for in-house design and engineering of this portion of the project.
