ACTION PLAN

The Yucca Corridor Coalition met on several occasions with various community organization leaders, government representatives, developers, and business owners to obtain their input and recommendations regarding the feasibility and design of the project. Without exception they supported the concept, noting that this would be the first of a multi-phase beautification plan for the area. All objections were addressed and satisfied.

The Gateway To Hollywood site is located on one of the major arterial routes from the Valley leading into Hollywood. The location selected provides the ideal opportunity to "announce" vehicular travelers of their entry to Hollywood. The plan to create this gateway is highlighted with a large fountain sign: HOLLYWOOD.

For the pedestrian, it serves as a more commodious place to wait for the bus; it serves as a plaza space to rest; it serves as a site to recognize community organizations and their supportive activity in the area; it serves as a space in which residents and visitors can utilize without fear of safety issues.

There are two landscapes that are divided and connected by water and walkway features. The water element creates a visual and aural line on the site with the fountain and pocket-pond with stepping stones. One landscape displays a native desert site with a cactus garden, while the other displays the lush environment of greenery associated with a park atmosphere.

Phase One

Having obtained the appropriate permits and authorizations from the various City agencies having jurisdiction over this city owned parcel, YCC has obtained the endorsement of a host of community based interests. These include, but are not limited to major developers in the Hollywood area who unanimously see the Gateway Project as complimenting their own development projects; the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, representing approximately 950 business and corporate members who see the Gateway as promoting the image of Hollywood in a dignified and esthetically pleasing way; City and Government officials who laud the efforts of a community based organization which takes the lead in developing a project which lends to the quality of life of our residents as well for the many visitors to the City.

Phase Two

The Yucca Corridor Coalition has identified as its Phase II Project, additional greening and tree planting, as well as lighting improvements along the Cahuenga Boulevard gateway area leading to Hollywood Boulevard, both north and south of Franklin, establishing a Boulevard atmosphere which will replace the current "industrial facade" now in evidence.

Phase Three

Phase III will encompass the restoration the historic lights in the Yucca Corridor, and additional tree and bush plantings.
